10 Tips to Reduce Your Electricity Bill in Luxembourg

Published on November 9, 2025

With energy prices rising, controlling electricity use has become a priority for many households in Luxembourg. Here are ten practical tips to lower your bill while also doing something positive for the planet.

1. Hunt down standby devices

A device on standby still consumes electricity. Remember to unplug chargers, televisions and computers, or use power strips with switches. This simple habit can save you up to 10% on your bill.

2. Switch to LED lighting

LED bulbs consume up to 80% less electricity than incandescent bulbs and last much longer. It is an initial investment that quickly pays for itself.

3. Optimise the use of household appliances

Run your washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full and use eco programmes whenever possible. For the dryer, a higher spin cycle in the wash will reduce drying time.

4. Defrost your freezer regularly

A layer of frost of only 3 mm can increase your freezer's power consumption by 30%. Regular defrosting is therefore essential.

5. Choose energy-efficient appliances

When buying a new appliance, check its energy label. An A+++ rated appliance is much more economical to run than a lower-rated model.

6. Insulate your home

Good insulation in the attic, walls and windows is key to reducing your electric heating needs. Luxembourg offers financial support such as the Klimabonus for energy renovation work.

7. Control your heating

Lower the temperature by 1°C to save 7% on your heating bill. Install programmable thermostats to adjust the temperature to your schedule.

8. Use your oven intelligently

Avoid opening the oven door during cooking so you do not lose heat. Use residual heat by turning the oven off a few minutes before the end of cooking.

9. Take advantage of off-peak hours

If your contract allows it, schedule your most energy-hungry appliances to run during off-peak hours, when electricity is cheaper.

10. Ask a professional for an energy assessment

A qualified electrician can analyse your installation and identify sources of overconsumption. At BK ELECTRO, we provide complete energy assessments to help you optimise your usage. Contact us to learn more.
